Woooo didn't really see that coming despite my optimism! A four point weekend for the Braehead Clan, home v Fife Flyers and away to Cardiff Devils!!
Saturday night saw the Clan host Fife Flyers in front of almost 1900 fans (about 300 more than my estimations it has to be said) and the Clan obliged said fans with a most comprehensive 10-1 victory over the visitors.
The extent of the victory was less important for me than the actual performances on the ice. Four goals for Mike Bayrack being the most notable achievement in an individual basis but overall, the team played with much confidence throughout. Slicker and more complex passing moves were evidence of intense training sessions and team building exercises coming to fruition.
Tonight saw the Clan visit Cardiff devils where I had previously seen Clan get dismantled. Tonight was a different story as Clan won 4-3 in OT to stop the devil's 2 year unbeaten streak at home. (Does an OT loss count as a loss in that streak? Hmm dunno lol)
Drew Bannister received a terrible hit but managed to regain things and return in the 3rd period and even floor that giant man called Voth!!
Downside is that Mike Will is currently in hospital after being hit with the stick of............Brad Voth. Yep even on the bench you're not safe against that man but most reports suggest it was unintentional. Get Well Soon Mike!!
Anyway, the last couple of weeks will have sent out a message to the rest of the EIHL, Braehead Clan are improving with every match and are a force to be reckoned with even more than last year!!
Let's Go Braehead!!!

Challenge Cup Semis Beckon!!
Shoulda been here before but a virus..............aye I know excuses............
Saturday night saw the Braehead Clan play v Belfast Giants like we know they can. Passionately, together and with aggression!
An amazing transformation considering several members of the team supposedly had flu like symptoms.
This time, Kyle Bruce (previously notable for a lack of his usual aggression) looked like the shackles had been removed by coach Bannister and was ably assisted by Jim Jorgenson in intimidating and challenging the Giants at every level. The result being a 4-1 home victory despite being outshot by their opponents over each period of the match.
In the process, the Clan also qualified for the semi finals of the Challenge Cup having played only 6 of 8 matches!!
I liked the way Clan played v Giants. I know this is only season 2 but, it appears to be the way that gets success and probably echos the crowd mentality. At Braehead we are very vocal and try to raise the energy on the ice accordingly. Looks like it worked on Saturday!!
Sunday, apparently was a somewhat different affair away to Dundee Stars.
I missed this due to said virus but the text updates which included "booooorrriinngg" made me glad I missed this Challenge Cup only 2-2 draw which consolidated our position at the top of Group A.
So, this weekend sees the Clan host the Fife Flyers. This for the Clan is a must win match and if they play like last Saturday then 2 points will be in the bag. On Sunday its away to Cardiff. Not sure how I see this one going. I'm going to be positive and say it's a 4 point weekend as Clan will hopefully be up to avenge their previous defeat to the Devils last month.
So what will this weekend bring? Time will tell!
GO CLAAAANN!!!

Sublime to Ridiculous
Well, OK, not sublime but the 7-2 win against Edinburgh Capitals was reassuring at the time. Not a fantastic performance as the Caps appeared to play with not the greatest of urgency.
The win was all the more rewarding due to 7 different players scoring!
Sunday night in Murrayfield Ice Rink was a different story, Caps came out firing on all cylinders and completely dominated the match from start to finish, ending up 5-3 winners over Clan.
it was like a mirror image of the previous match. On Saturday, Clan were fired up and out to avenge the defeat to Stingrays against a confident Capitals, Sunday, Caps were the fired up side out avenge the defeat the previous night to a confident Clan side on the back of their win.
Clan could not be faulted for their level of effort, indeed, they put in 110% effort but a high level of sloppy play (due to over ambitious passes and poor defence) resulted in their downfall with Caps packing their goal mouth and taking advantage of Clan errors.
Whilst there is no lack of commitment from the team, there is a distinct lack of aggression over passion. Last year we were able to bully teams through aggression. This season we seem to be relying on fast play which is obviously not working. Add to that the fact the team has yet to gel properly to take advantage of the ambitious long passes due to unfamiliarity, and we have pretty much disjointed and inconsistent plays and results. I'm not advocating Clan drop the gloves at every opportunity every game and take unnecessary penalties, just make it look like they will! ;)
I am far from being highly knowledgable never mind an expert but even to my untrained eye, the solution appears to be back to basics on ice for a few more matches before rolling out the training moves.
Saturday sees us host the Belfast Giants and then visit CCS Dundee Stars. Not an easy weekend ahead and for both matches I feel we have to get back to basics, get more than one player in front of goal in defence and keep the breaks simple and direct and find someone not scared to play the one time slapshot.
See you all Saturday at Braehead!!

Stingrays 9-4 Clan, Weekend Preview
The aftermath of Hull Stingrays 9-4 victory over Braehead Clan has passed and time to look forward.
Don't get me wrong, I am still in shock at the record loss to a side we should be beating but I feel I need to concentrate on the future rather than the past. The performance on Wednesday must surely have rocked every player to the core leaving them with much resolve never to repeat it.
Sooo, onto the weekend double header against the improving Edinburgh Capitals. two games we really must win and I have a feeling the players will come out fighting hard in both matches and deliver. This is a bunch of professionals that includes NHL/AHL players, they have pride and that pride will be hurting right now. Perhaps the hurt will be a better motivator than the confidence of a win v Stingrays would have been?
There is a very small group of so-called *fans* out there who have voiced the view they will not be going to the weekend matches due to the level of the defeat. Complete and utter lunacy! These kind of knee-jerk individuals are not *fans*, simple.
All teams have bad days, remember last season we lost 10 in a row? Did we stop going to matches? Of course not! We continued to go out and promote the Clan to all who would listen and now we have 2000 at home games! Let's keep getting the message out there and give the team our 100% backing!
Let's goooooooooooo Claaaaaannnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!

Clan v Blaze
Last Saturday's match v Fife Flyers was a demonstration of how to play almost an entire game like it was a powerplay and still manage to lose four goals and only score seven. Of course, the two points still count but the lack of ability to score and the apparent lackadaisical defending raise concerns about future perfomances against the current top teams in the league.
This in mind tonights game against Hull Stingrays in Hull is by no means a pushover and neother are the weekend matches v Edinburgh Capitals. Time will tell but I am positive that the team will gel as they get to know each other over time.

Weekend/Midweek round up
So busy these days am having trouble keeping up with this blog..........
Saturdays less than convincing win v Blaze gave me hope for last night's match v Panthers at home.
According to the stats we were out shot 21-7 v Blaze but still won 4-2. Galbraith and Bannister getting their first goals for the club and Suomalainen being the virtual match winner. What a goalie that man is!!
Last night's match I didn't get to but, from the text reports I got from the match as it happened, we got well and truly gubbed by a team that played several levels above us in the Nottingham Panthers.
"Worst I've ever seen them play" being the most telling text.
Leaving it at that methinks.
This saturday sees the Clan play the Fife Flyers for the first time. This is a must win encounter. Clan cannot lose points to our fellow Scots and hope to make a good showing in the league so I have 6-2 Clan in my mind for this one.
Fingers crossed..........

Panthers v Clan preview
Having seen the Clan performance last sunday night in Cardiff, I have to say a little pessimism had entered my mindset until I saw the text updates at TCW re the match between the Panthers and the Caps. Caps appeared to hold their own for periods of time and lead twice so no reason why Braehead Clan cannot do the same on Sunday night?
The news that Mike Bayrack has got his visa sorted out is massive news! Whether he plays or not v Panthers remains to e seen, but, personally, I'd at least give him a couple of short shifts to get his "eye in" as it were.
My predictions for this weekend?
Heart says 4-2 Clan
Reality says 3-3 and OT win to Panthers.
We'll see.

Cardiff Devils Weekend
Last weekend I went to Braehead to see Braehead Clan v Cardiff Devils and then traveled down to Cardiff for the return, returning to Glasgow yesterday.
A fine 3-1 win on Saturday night was followed by a woeful performance on the Sunday night at Cardiff. Possibly the worst display I've ever seen from Clan. I do have some empathy, after an 8 hour drive, I probably couldn't have performed effectively either, but...they were playing against a team that had endured that trip twice in 48 hours.
Clan were not short on effort, but slack passing, ineffective offence and virtually zero defence meant Jaako Sumalainen let in 5 goals in the 5-2 defeat and was made to look poor purely and simply because he had zero of a defensive line.
Little point on dwelling upon it, this team is new, has had little ice time and game time, will grow together as a team under new manager Drew Bannister and become a major force in the EIHL.
What was the experience like?
Only 8 of us hardy souls there were chanting (the other 3 don't chant at home either and don't have a problem with that) but apparently we could be heard very easily, I know that because someone tweeted @clanfans to say so ;). A two miniute BPA is not recommended, there is no hiding place when only eight of you and no opportunity to bend down and lubricate the vocal chords with the amber nectar!!
Very friendly devils fans and excellent bar service and very friendly bar staff at the end (particularly Megan) made for brilliant evening, the performance aside. Afterwards we went to O'Neills and met the Devils players much like Sno! bar and the giant called Voth posed for a pic with us and was brutally honest regards his hit on Kyle Bruce.
We stayed three nights in cardiff and could have done with more, it's an awesome city, architecture, pubs and friendly people!! We were spoiled with an Indian Summer and temps topping 27 degrees but even in the depths of winter, I doubt the experience would have been less.
Thank you Cardiff for a wonderful experience!!

Successful Weekend for Clan
I know it's Wednesday and I'm late, very late, but I've had little opportunity to get here until now.
The Braehead Clan hockey season finally got underway on Saturday night with a home match v Dundee Stars in front of a record crowd of 2593. A totally immense atmosphere which was further enhanced by the fact that Clan Towers have agreed for the Clan Fans Association to be grouped together in Section N instead of being spread about. That made for a very rousing night!
I had major reservations about how the game would play out due to Mike Bayrack not being available through visa issues and the team essentially only being together for a single week.
I need not have worried as the Clan hit the ice with some great, direct and physical play that saw them go into the first break with a 2-0 lead. Who'd have bet on Vince Connon being the player who scored Clan's first goal of the season?
2nd period was edged by Dundee but they failed to get the puck past Jaako Sumalainen who played majestically in goal whilst the Clan looked a little jaded after their 1st period efforts.
I don't know what Drew bannister said at the break but Clan came out looking more like the 1st period team and finally prevailed with a 4-0 3rd period giving them a well deserved 6-0 win and gaining 2 League and Challenge Cup points.
Sunday saw the Clan visit Murrayfield to play Edinburgh Capitals bhouyed by the previous night's performance.
The main topic of conversation on the bus was "how many", having seen the Caps v Panthers earlier i was aware this team are no pushovers and what ensued proved the case.
Whilst Clan eventually ran out 4-2 winners in the Challenge Cup clash, Capitals played well and Clan looked very tired in front of a sizeable away support that outnumbered the home support by at least 2 to 1.
A great atmosphere once again due to the noisy away support that even warranted a "thank you" from the Capitals announcer. I missed the stovies last year at Murrayfield and my priority was to get mine in early. Very disappointed, very bland and £2 for a cup of puré potato is a bit much. Do not buy!
I love going to Murrayfield, it's like a step back in time and I don't mean that in a bad way! I saw the place on tv in monochrome in another lifetime lol. I feel for those guys just now. Clan fans are cracking up about there not being enough of the black CC jersey available and the Caps players are playing in jerseys donated by fans. I really, really hope they manage to turn all aspects of the club on and off the ice very soon.
Thoughts on this weekend double header up tomorrow.

Nearly Game Time!
It's nearly here, the start of the season for Braehead Clan!
It's been a loooong off season but the weekend sees a Scottish double header with Dundee Stars visiting Braehead on Saturday followed by a trip to Murrayfield on Sunday to play the Edinburgh Capitals.
4 point start to the weekend? Prior to Stars holding Belfast Giants last week to 0-0 in normal time, I might have said so.
Now, though, I'm optimistic but not as certain as I was. Clan will need to be quick out the box tomorrow night if they want to catch Stars cold.
Predictions:
Clan 3-2 Stars
Capitals 2-6 Clan
Roll on tomorrow night!!

New Braehead Clan Jerseys 2011/12
I attended the Braehead Clan Jersey launch at Sno! Bar at Xscape last night and a good time was had by all!
Really like the new jerseys. Top pic below is the Away jersey, below that the awesome Challenge Cup jersey and bottom is the Home Jersey.
Sadly I was unable to get to the front of the crowd to get pics of the team line up, Scotfail did it again with the trains running late hence, I was late.
However, all the players willingly chatted and posed for photos all night and it's refreshing to see that.
You don't get that at football!
Really looking forward to next Saturday the 14th for the season opener with Dundee Stars now :)

Completed Roster For Clan
I know this is "old" news as it was released 2 days ago, bu7t couldn't get here before now sadly. Yup! Braehead Clan have completed their roster by signing ex Belfast Giants player Mickel Bayrack!
From the official Clan site........
"The 32 year old, left handed Centre, played 34 games for the Giants last season before moving on to the Austrian league. Bayrack brings with him a wealth of experience and skill. Having played in Germany, Austria, Denmark and Slovenia, as well as playing for AHL and ECHL sides.
Bayrack had the following to say as he prepared to fly into Glasgow later this week;
“I am looking forward to playing in the Rapid Solicitors EIHL again, and I am looking forward to playing out of Braehead. I am just keen to get the season underway and am happy to be doing it in a Clan jersey.”"
Dead chuffed is this Clan Fan and with that D line as back up, I have high hopes for next season!!

Clan get their Goalie
At long last Braehead Clan get their goalie and as anticipated it was not Szuper...
From the official Clan website...........
"33 year old Fin, Jaakko Elias Suomalainen joins the Clan having played last season with HK Jesenice in Austria. Jaakko is no stranger to Glasgow, having played for the Paisley Pirates back in 2001/2002 in the BNL. He played 17 games for the Pirates before returning to Finland to finish the season in the Finland 3 league with Karhu Kissat. Jaakko has played in some of the top European leagues such as the Finland 3 and Finland 2 as well as the SM-Liiga.
The 5’11 190lbs puck stopper is looking forward to returning to the Glasgow area and playing out of Braehead Arena....."
I have to admit when I read that I did wonder about the quality of the signing but, having read Jaakko's stats, I'm pretty darned pleased to say he looks like a real step up in class from JFP!
Now a good quality import as a forward and two Brits and we're set for the new season!

Capitals v Panthers
I got my first hockey "fix" of the new season tonight when I went to see the Edinburgh Capitals v Nottingham Panthers this evening.
Strangely, the Braehead Clan Fans sat with the Panthers fans? Weird I thought at the time and by the end of the 1st period I had had enough of sitting there politely applauding the Caps efforts amongst them. I don't do silent at hockey matches and those Panthers fan literally only made a noise when they scored bar a brief chant in the 3rd period. Don't understand following your team hundreds of miles and not giving them vocal support?
So, at the end of the period myself and 2 other brave fans went over to sit with the Caps fans and actually get to make some noise!!
Panthers won, as expected, but only by 5-1 and the Capitals put on a good show, especially as they only had 14 players on the bench. For me, Caps goalie Nathan Craze was MVP but didn't even get a mention. Travesty!! He played a blinder despite the score, making some superb saves.

Sponsors but no player signings...
Well folks, this last week, we've had a few sponsors added which is brill news but no new player signings.
The most open secret so far is the "imminent" or "so close to signing" of Hungarian goalie Szuper. Not holding my breath on that one I'm afraid, too many people seem to know about it, it's like a much hyped movie that doesn't deliver as far as I'm concerned. Hope I'm wrong of course but time will tell. In any event, if Mike Will starts initially and proves himself, could it be justified to put in another goalie in his place? Ahhh yer thinkin now eh?
Incidentally, how come the Szuper rumour is not on Elite Prospects?
Sunday I'm heading to Edinburgh to support the Edinburgh Capitals V the Clan B team..Nottingham Panthers. Hoping to build some relationships with our capital rivals who seemed to feel we taunted them more than they taunted us when they gubbed us 8-3 at Murrayfield in all the snow last season. Just hope they don't get well and truly thumped by the Panthers who walloped the Blaze 10-1 the other night.
Back to the Clan, we have 2 imports and 2 brits still to get. Who will they be? Brit wise, I have no idea. Import wise there is a feeling we may be waiting until the drafts are complete across the pond and we'll try to snag someone from there.
Until next time,
Al
The most open secret so far is the "imminent" or "so close to signing" of Hungarian goalie Szuper. Not holding my breath on that one I'm afraid, too many people seem to know about it, it's like a much hyped movie that doesn't deliver as far as I'm concerned. Hope I'm wrong of course but time will tell. In any event, if Mike Will starts initially and proves himself, could it be justified to put in another goalie in his place? Ahhh yer thinkin now eh?

Campbell re-signs for Braehead Clan
Braehead Clan re-sign Ryan (soupy) Campbell. It's been a frustrating time recently, every day I take the opportunity to load the Clan site waiting for new signings with the face off now just 22 days away. It's great to see so much sponsorship but, as a fan, I want to see signings and every time I saw the site had been updated.........yeah.......no signings........ Soooo today!!! I leave my phone at home and then get home to see that Ryan Campbell has re-signed!! That's def a positive. I like Soupy, he's a solid, consistent player and will bring a lot to the club on ice and off just like last season. Just 2 more imports to go.... It's good to have something positive happen in times that are a just a tad concerning. Straight into a league match against CSS Dundee Stars with no pre-season friendlies cannot be a good thing. Friendlies are much maligned if you ask me, they give the teams a benchmark regards their training moves and how effective or ineffective they are and how well the team is working together and give valuable competitive ice time. They are not pointless (other than league status wise). The season starts for real elsewhere this weekend with Steelers at Giants and Panthers at Devils on Saturday night an the Panthers/Devils return on Sunday night. I need my hockey fix so will grab the first Live Stream option to go online, can't say fairer than that yeah? That's it for now :) Al

Callum Adamson/Brock McPherson sign for Braehead Clan
Apologies, you most likely know about these signings already :( my laptop died and is in for recuss as I type which means I'm currently typing on an archaic hand cranked old Desktop PC :(
Ok so what's happened?
Callum Adamson signed last week, experienced in GB u/17s. U/20s and U/21s Callum will surely be a bright prospect for the future and a Brit/Scot too from Cowdenbeath. Welcome to the Clan Callum!!
2nd signing of the week was Forward Brock McPherson. A talented 30 year old and vast experience, his write up on the Braehead Clan official page does not do him any sort of justice. "Google" McPherson v Kalata or just watch below and you'll see he doesn't mind throwing down the glove. Something Clan lacked last season was a physical presence, now with McPherson and Galbraith we have one!

Offseason thoughts
This being my first offseason in British ice hockey, I'm still getting used to the fact you can virtually lose a whole team and start afresh with an almost completely new team.
It's a concept I struggle with. I don't quite understand how any amount of stability and continuity can be maintained under such conditions. The EIHL itself appears to me to be something of an enigma. Teams having the same owners for instance, surely there has to be some form of conflict of interest there? Braehead Clan have the same owner as the Nottingham Panthers. I don't know how that works although, Clan did sign the best player of last season, Jade Galbraith from the Panthers so I suppose you could say there is some neutrality from the owner there? I just struggle with it.
The EIHL also seems to me to be a League having difficulty with it's identity.
It is after all, called the Elite League, yet, some EPL teams have larger crowds and pay better wages? Perhaps someone can enlighten me? Please?
With regard to the Clan. It's only some 40 days until we face off against the Dundee Stars and we still only have 11 players on the roster. Obviously I am confident we will have three lines signed for 24th September, but what of the quality?
Again I say this is my first off season so lots to learn in the patience stakes so all will be revealed in the end.....

Camera Person and no signings
Well... not a lot more to report on so far this week?
A new camera person is required by Braehead Clan for home matches you can see details here.
Tomorrow being Friday, I'm hopeful that some news will filter through though, perhaps of a goalie? Here's hoping! At least let's here of another signing at least, it's getting darned close (43 days) until our first match and currently feeling a tad nervous about the lack of news.
That said, the folks in contact with the club don't seem to be particularly bothered so I suspect they have insider knowledge they are unable to impart to the masses so encouraged by that!

Mike Will returns to Clan
Great to see Braehead Clan back up goalie Mike Will returning to the team for a second season :)
Mike didn't get a lot of ice time last season but acqitted himself well when he did get on. After spending the summer in Canada working and training, he'll be working with the Clans Schools and Community Foundation as well as his back up duties.
Welcome back Mike Will!!

Scottish Sun backs Scottish Ice hockey
The Scottish Sun has announced it is to back all four Scottish Ice Hockey clubs commencing 23rd August.
Match summaries of weekend matches on a Monday with a feature column on the Tuesday can only be great news for the Braehead Clan along with the Flyers, Capitals and Stars! With a readership of around 350K, the crowds will surely grow as word gets out on a regular basis about this fantastic, if minority, sport.
Needing 2000+ crowds to break even, Braehead Clan will surely exceed that target with ease now!!

Braehead Clan sign Jade Galbraith
Drew Bannister made his first signing for Braehead Clan today and what a signing! Jade Galbraith ex Nottingham Panthers player and best player in EIHL the last three seasons!
He has experience, ability and not scared to stand up for himself so a great addition to the Clan roster.
There appears to be some controversy amongst Clan fans and even some threatening to cancel their season ticket or not stand and welcome him?
This is due to THAT incident last season when he was playing against us. Come on people!!! Get a freakin life for cryin out loud!! No matter your thoughts, it's the TEAM you support! You were all glad when Drew Bannister signed so are you suddenly not supporting his judgement?
What happens when Jade Galbraith scores the goal to take us to the play-offs, you just gonna sit there with petted lip? Naaaahhhh you're gonna be on your feet like the rest of so get over it!!!
I would much rather he was fur us than agin us!!
Wonder who else Drew Bannister has in mind as he builds the clan roster!!
View Jade Galbraith's stats here

More Rumours?
Today's rumours are a player with a girl's name to sign for Braehead Clan??
First up is Jeff Corey although I'm not too sure about that one?
Firmest rumour for me is that of Jade Galbraith. I may be wrong but it does seem the strongest of the two and if the posts on The Cage (Panthers forum) are to be taken into consideration, I feel Galbraith may well be signing for us imminently.
I'd like to see Galbraith and Corey at the Clan this season, good signings and may well draw other players to us too :)
Things are looking up after my earlier post re being virtually demoralised lol!

New Appointments At Last!!
Excellent stuff!!!
First appointment was yesterday when Braehead Clan announced the new Equipment Manager as Ross Gaughan. Many congrats on your new post Ross!
And finally today the rumour mill was put to rest with the appointment of Drew Bannister as new player/coach!
37 year old Bannister has played for no less than four NHL teams and has a wealth of experience elsewhere in ice hockey including last season at Hull Stingrays. I'm sure I'm not the only one to welcome Drew and his family into the *Clan* and wish him a very successful season ahead.
Now we await the upcoming player signings and see how the team is going to shape up.

Rumour Mill Turns on it's head
Yep! Having been told last week that Hull Stingray's D man Drew Bannister had rejected an offer by Braehead Clan we hear via BIH that he (I assume no-one else got an offer) has changed his mind and so here we go again..........
Better news is the release of the home fixtures at last you can view them here, not too drastic by the looks and I should still be able to attend them all! :)))

Still no coach :(
So, the Braehead Clan STILL do not have a new coach!
Season ticket cutoff on 31st July, no 2+2 Family season tickets, no coach, delayed start to the season including the postponement of early away matches, loss of our Brit Prospect Steven Chalmers to Dundee Stars, only one staff member on duty who is run off her feet and things are verging on farcical.
My early off season optimism has all but evaporated into the ether. Don't thnk we've even got two full lines in place in the player stakes either which means most of the good players will be signed long before we get to them.
Perhaps the Clan will pull something out of the bag and produce a wonder coach who can bring players with him? Danny Stewart maybe? I sincerely hope so because right at the moment I don't see us being able to compete to the same level as last season. Whomever does take the coaching post realy has his work cut out and will need to have enough contacts to muster a decent line-up for season two.
Right, that's the rant over, positive mental attitude in place.....tomorrow will see good news on Clan website!!!!!!!!!

Clan fixture changes
So it seems I was completely wrong..........the early September away fixtures are indeed affected and will not happen. On the positive side, at least we got some clarification as requested.
That then, leaves the question, what to do before 24th September?
Seriously thinking about going to the Caps v Panthers match on September 11th and lending my support to the Caps. With my Clan jersey on of course!!

Confusion Reigns (and Good News)
The folk at Clan Towers must have read my last post lol.
Suddenly two bits of news are issued in the same day! Sadly it felt like we had been given the "here's the bad news but never fear some good news to stop you moaning" strategy.
The Davis Cup tournament has taken precedence over the opening fixtures of the Braehead in early September. So the first home game is now on September 24th v Dundee Stars. For me, this is simply a frustration, for others it's a complete and utter mess. Why? Because they work shifts, have taken the time to rearrange same in plenty of time and now their plans are very much awry. Not good PR Braehead Clan!
The confusion mentioned in the header surrounds the wording on the website regards the changes and whether the early September away games are still on. My own opinion is that the away game with Stars on September 11th should not be affected. After all, why should it? We'll see when we eventually get clarification from the club.
The Good News, and it Is Good News, is that the club have signed a five year contract with the Braehead Arena management! It shows some forward thinking and confidence in the future of the club and we should all be embracing this. The future is bright, the future is Purple!
Still no news of a new coach although the rumour is that Stingrays D man Drew Bannister has declined the coach position and Danny Stewart and Rhett Gordon are back as the front runners.

Off Season goings on..or not
Sooo, haven't been on here for ages!!!
Not a lot happening on the signings front at Braehead Clan so far this off season.
Still awaiting news of a new coach after the departure of Bruce Richardson to the Canadian Midget League. Sad to see him go especially as he had signed a contract for Seaon 2. He was, however, always clear that if an opportunity arose, he'd take it. Best of luck Bruce!!
So who will be Richardson's successor? Plenty of rumours but currently no substance. Danny Stewart and Rhett Gordon seem to be the rumour mill's front runners but the offical website says the successful candidate will be revealed this coming week.
Personally, I'd like to see Stewart as coach with Jon Landry as his assistant but we'll see. Whomever it is, he'll have his work cut out to get a full team in place for face off on 10th September v Panthers. (As the away fixtures have STILL not been announced, I assume that's our first match!)
Biggest signing so far for me is Krestanovich. I didn't expect us to keep him until the close season so to snag him for the whole this season is massive. Holding onto Wedderburn and Kyle Bruce was pretty darned good news too ;)
Difficult to say how I feel about the upcoming season as the roster on the official site only has 8 players listed and one of them is Bruce Richardson. (Yeah you read that right) Shame the same urgency shown by the team on ice is not shown in updating the website and sharing information.
Nope I'm not going to rant.........Almost as bad as me updating this blog lol.
Go Clan!!!

Clan Wrap Up 4 Point Weekend
A great weekend for Braehead Clan as they wrapped up four points agains Edinburgh Capitals and Hull Stingrays. Those points, coupled with Coventry Blaze losing to Nottingham Panthers sees Clan move up into 5th place in the EIHL League.
Tonight, Clan saw off the Stingrays 3-2 in what is reported to have been a nervy affair but well deserved win despite being out shot 54-37. The result puts clear air between the 2 sides as Rays are now 11 points behind with only two games in hand.
Last night at Braehead Arena, the Clan took on the beleaguered Edinburgh Capitals. Michael Will started in goal for the first time and kept a clean sheet as Clan ran riot, finally winning 15-0. He also got the Clan MOTM award.
The match was more of a training session for Clan as the Capitals only had 9 skaters. BUT let me make this clear, those 9 skaters gave their all for their club and kept going and trying to the end! Capitals MOTM was the whole team and they got a very deserved standing ovation at the end. The club's current situation is definately not down to lack of committment from the current squad!!
Considering there as a very healthy 1300+ the atmosphere was subdued and difficult to generate any energy as my vocal chords will confirm lol.
A special mention here for Vince Connon, he got his first goal for the Clan!!! Way to go Vince!! Hope it is the first of very many!!!!!!!!
This weekend coming sees a visit from the fans of Adler Die Mannheim who struck up a close relationship with the now defunct Ayr Eagles to see Clan take on Cardiff Devils. Looking forward to that!!
Sunday sees Clan visit Coventry Blaze and sticks are crossed we see another 4 point weekend!

Braehead Clan v Edinburgh Capitals
Braehead Clan v Edinburgh Capitals this weekend.
What will Coach Richardson do?
Start with a full strength line and try to get a few goals in the 1st period and then bring on the youngsters and Michael Will in goal for the remaining 2 periods?
Or start with the youngsters and Will?
If it was me...I'd get goals on the board and secure victory first, then ring the changes.
Points in this case do make prizes and I would much rather face the Panthers in the play offs as opposed to the Giants. We need to make sure of victory before taking any chances.
All sports events are unpredictable, even when you are playing a team in deep deep trouble and surprises do happen, Bruce.........play canny lad and take no chances!!!!!!

Clan 3-4 Panthers SO
Clan came away from Panthers tonight with a single point that really should have been two, but 3 points from four v the 2nd and 4th placed sides in the EIHL is just about job done!!
Clan had 43 shots on goal and Panthers 38 and the commentator on TCW reckoned we should have won in OT at least when Chaumont failed to score.
No matter, we got 3 points this weekend towards our play off quest and if we can just get above the Blaze into 5th place we'll probably have Panthers and I doubt they will fancy that over two legs!!!

Braehead Clan 7-1 Cardiff Devils
Woooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! Didn't see 7-1 over the 2nd top side coming there!!!!!!!!
Fabulous performance from the Clan boys and another very determined show with more flair and imagination than seen before.
Richardson, Bostock, Walker, Krestnovich, Cook, Landry and Chaumont all got on the score sheet in a most emphatic win.
A crowd of over 1500 watched the spectacle and were richly rewarded. Over 1500 with no BOGOFs augurs well for the Ckan as they continue their quest for a break even 2000 crowd in season 2.
Clan now sit 5th equal with Coventry Blaze on 44 points with Blaze only having 1 game in hand after their 5-3 loss to Giants this evening.
Ckan are away to Nottingham Panthers Sunday evening and after that performance v Cardiff, who's to say what the result will be?

Braehead Clan v Cardiff Devils
Friday night sees Braehead Clan host 2nd placed Cardiff Devils.
My heart says the growing confidence and cohesion within the team will give us a chance of snatching a 1st victory over the high flying Devils. My head, on the other hand, says we'll be hard pushed to avoid a heavy defeat.
BUT, I remain positive, we CAN take someething from this match, I'm sure of it and I'll be there shouting my head off to ensure I do my bit for the team!!! (See previous post lol :P )

My heart says the growing confidence and cohesion within the team will give us a chance of snatching a 1st victory over the high flying Devils. My head, on the other hand, says we'll be hard pushed to avoid a heavy defeat.

Chant Rant
A small rant about chanting and noise at Braehead Arena at Clan matches.
Sports persons thrive on atmosphere and atmosphere is generated by crowd noise.
Unfortunately there are a few individuals who think the crowd should sit quietly and "concentrate on the game". And unfortunately they seem to have the ear of "those upstairs". Indeed there was an instance where a female spectator snatched a drum stick from a young boy. Had that been a male he would have been immediately ejected and possibly even police involvement. What happened? No apology (as far as I am aware) and the drum and horns etc are now banned from the arena, except of course if you are a fan of the visiting team.
No consistency whatsoever!
Bear in mind also, that it was the players themselves that requested a singing section and the above is madness!!!
Ice Hockey is a sporting event. Sporting events are noisy. I can't see the individual mentioned above, being able to quiet a crowd at an Old Firm football match? If people want to watch sport in silence then the should watch on TV with the sound down!
Sporting events are the vehicle that allows human beings to rekindle and express their inherent Tribal Instincts in a safe, and in the case of Ice Hockey at Braehead Arena, family environment.
Fans simply have to be permitted to express themselves and feel part of an extended family. That is why we sports fans go to sports events, to feel part of something greater than we can explain. We celebrate wins together and grieve when we lose, together. At Braehead, we the fans are indeed a "Clan". So let us, as a Clan, express ourselves in age old manner, with our vocal cords and musical instruments!!
Rant Over.

Braehead Clan 2-1 Dundee Stars
Braehead Clan wrapped up a great four point weekend with a 2-1 victory over the Dundee Stars in Dundee Ice Arena.
I wasn't there and won't steal the rports of others sooo let's look at the stats.
Clan had 5 PPs and Dundee 2, Dundee still managed to outshoot the clan 38 to 24 which suggests it was not an easy night for the Clan and texts from those at the match included "Clan are sluggsh and Stars look up for it".
Sounds like we won ugly and that's fine by me, any team that wins ugly is a team of winners!
Looking at the penalties, 7 over the entire game and....only two for the Clan and Moray Hanson again the Ref, come on clan fans, the guy is not out to get us!!!!!!!! Lay off him for a while eh?
Posts on Facebook tell of a repeat of the last 2 mins at Edinburgh over the festive season and at Belfast last weekend, ie a wall of continuous noise via "Richardson's Purple Army". Way to go the travelling support!!!!!!!!!

Braehead Clan 7-1 Newcastle Vipers
Braehead Clan took on a depleted Vipers side who only had 10 skaters available on Saturday night and recorded a convincing 7-1 win to claim 2 vital points in the play off race.
The score could have been more were it not for some valiant keeping by Effinger who saved 53 of 60 shots on goal. A highly spirited perfomance by the Vipers who should be applauded for their efforts.
Clan on the other hand displayed some creative plays on their way to the win with goals from Cook (2), Richardson, Bruce (2), Walker and Krestanovich.
The crowd was a very healthy 1405 considering the "Buy One Get One Free" offer had been withdrawn!!
The referee?? Moray Hanson and he had a good game. Yeah I know, I said a good game but be honest, he's not the worst ref out there by a long chalk and the stick he gets is undeserved if you ask me.
If you want to keep up to date with the latest score from tonightsmatch v Dundee Stars just click here!!
I'll be there as I can't go due to work committments so hope to see you there!!

Krestanovich!
This weekends double header starts with a visit from Newcastle Vipers and the good news is that Jordan Krestanovich has extended his contract and will ice tonight!!!!
Despite losing 15-0 in their last outing v the Panthers, I can't see the struggling Vipers lying down. They are sure to be hurting badly from that loss and will be looking to erase the memory and bounce back v Clan so a tough match ahead if you ask me!
Face off at Braehead Arena is at 7pm, get your tickets here!!
Sunday sees the Clan travel to Dundee to play the Stars who will be high after their 6-3 victory over the Edinburgh Capitals and another stiff test for the Clan. There's nothing like some Scottish rivalry to add some spice to a hockey match :)
Not sure yet whether I'll be doing match reports, loads of others doing that, but ya never know ;)

All set
Well, all set for Play off weekend in Nottingham, Hotel booked and paid for, match tickets paid for and rail tickets paid for and delivered too :)
Looking forward to the Vipers match on saturday at Braehead, have afeeling it may closer than a lot of people expect and reckon we'll be fortunate to win by two on the night.
Work committments prevent me from visiting Dundee for the 1st time on Sunday which is a shame but I'll be keeping updated via Clanchat regardless!!!
Steelers beat Stingrays 3-0 tonight, good result for the Clan re the playoffs as Stingrays are now 8pts behind with 4 games in hand. We, therefore, have the upper hand as we have points in the bank if ya know what I mean? 6th place in our first season is looking like a real possibility!

The Braehead Clan v Belfast Giants weekend double header
started with a visit to Belfast on Saturday.
3am rise for the coach from Xscape at 5.30 am. Eventually left at 6.00am but time was made up easily and got the ferry at 8.30am as planned.
Only complaint about the coach was the fact the heating could not be switched off which meant things were distinctly uncomfortable for large parts of the journey.
The three hour ferry journey passed quickly, mainly down to the energy of the 89 of us who were there and the funny banter with a great bunch of peeps!!
On arrival in the port at 11.30am, we headed straight to Rockies bar, part of the main complex and literally just yards from the Odyssey Arena.
Brian McJ duly distributed our tickets and we hit the Guinness. Why is it thicker and creamier than the stuff we get? Hmmmmmm.....
Couple of pints in Rockies and a group of us hit the city centre. Absolutely gorgeous architecture! We ahd great intentions of exploring further but......a rather splendid pub caught our attention and...yeah we succumbed lol. Got welcomed to Belfast very warmly by all who asked who were in the city to see and really made to feel at home. :)
We then explored a wee bit more and decided to hit what looked a pub the locals would frequent and were not disappointed. (The name will come to me one day...) Great to watch people having good craich and enjoying themselves and we enjoyed it too!!!
Back to Rockies for 5pm, a few more sherbets and wait for Face Off time.
Rockies Bar, incidentally, is a sports fans Mecca!!!!!! Wall to wall and ceiling to floor, it's covered in sports memorabilia and you'll need to find me on facebook if you want to see all the pics ;)
Matchtime.
Fabulous arena and very friendly staff and fans! 4000 Giants fans and say, 100 clan fans. Bar when Giants scored, who could you hear? Clan Fans!!!!
This, bar the fact we lost, was the biggest disappointment of the weekend. I expected an electric atmosphere in the arena but it was more akin to a morgue. No singing or chanting, Giants fans simply sat and waited for a goal, cheered, taunted (that's ok lol) and then sat down in silence once more. There was one section with a drum(s) at the far end, but even they looked demoralised at the silence due to the lack of crowd involvement. Kinda like being at an Old Firm match here I suppose.
Final score was Giants 5-2 Clan. The scoreline reflected not great play by Giants but more a quite inept performance by the Clan and we really need to look at how we can play like we did 1st period v Panthers and then as badly as we did v Giants.
Did that dampen our spirits?? Not a jot!!!!!!!! We chanted "Richardson's Purple Army" for the last 3 minutes continuously and even got recognition from the Giants fans for that!
An hour to "waste" in Rockies before heading for another remarkably calm (and merry) ferry crossing to Stranraer and the coach home for 5.30am. Sleeeeep.
Sunday's match at the Braehead Arena was delayed by 90+ mins due to (allegedly) delays with travel down to Stennalink but don't quote me on that lol.
A small Giants contingent contributed to a great 1605 attendance which was very noisy. Made me wonder if people actually had taken on board what was being said about responding to chants and keeping them going because the atmosphere was fab :) Keep that up Clan fans!!!!!!!
The match.
Ho hum, it was like watching a rerun of the previous night's game, right down to fact it looked like Clan's PPs were actually Giants PPs. The result was Clan 1-2 Giants.
OHHHHH and just for those of you who think we scored at the end? We didn't!!! I was right behind the goal and when he hooter sounded I got to my feet to find people protesting. I was looking at the goal line and the puck had not crossed the line, in fact I didn't even see the puck.........sooooooooooooo.........no goal!!!!!
All in all it was a fantastic weekend (forget the score) I met a bunch of fantastic people, made new friends and had an absolute ball, albeit a 24 hour no sleep ball!!
If you can't make the away games....go to the home games!!!!!!! It's the best game you can name, it's the good ole hockey game!!!!!!

Belfast/Playoff Weekend
Hotel is booked for the EIHL Play Offs in Nottingham on April 2/3, train tickets will be booked later tonight and..........I have to pay the tickets in full on Sunday at Braehead Clan v Belfast Giants :( Didn't see that one coming lol but the upside is I just need to concentrate on spending money now lol. Only 9 tickets remain so gonna be a good weekend!!
This weekend sees Braehead Clan take on the Belfast Giants away on Saturday and home on Sunday. If the Clan can play the way they did v Nottingham Panthers during the 1st period on the 23rd Jan, I reckon we may well steal a result. They'll need to play like that for 2 periods and not just one though.
Just to get you in the mood, watch the video highlights of Clan 6-3 Panthers here.
